5 Gentle Ways to Feel Peace in the Pause This Fall

There’s something about late October that feels like a deep exhale. The air shifts, the trees let go, and everything seems to whisper, slow down.
After a few years of constant change- new jobs, moves, lessons, and growth- we’ve found ourselves in a season of pause. Not everything is figured out yet. We don’t know exactly where our “forever home” will be (though we’ve narrowed it down to the school zone, because that was kinda the whole point).
And for once, I’m learning to stop trying to plan five steps ahead.
This season feels different. It’s not stagnant, but incubating- like something beautiful is quietly forming under the surface. My job isn’t to rush it. It’s to stay present, keep the vision clear, and trust that the details will unfold in their own timing.
I’ve Been Here Before
The last time I felt like this was when we dreamed of moving back to our old city. It felt impossible. The timing was off, the logistics were messy, and honestly, I couldn’t see how it would ever happen.
But then- somehow- the stars aligned. In a way I couldn’t have scripted or predicted, everything came together. Looking back, I can see how that “in-between” season was quietly rearranging things for me.

Now, I’m back in that same space. Holding the vision for our dream home, without micromanaging how or when it’ll happen.
Because if there’s anything the last few years have taught me, it’s that the how isn’t my job – the holding is. There’s a power in the pause.
Letting Go Like the Trees
Fall has always been my reminder that letting go can be beautiful. The trees don’t cling to their leaves, terrified they’ll never grow again- they trust the process. They rest. The whole process is beautiful and that’s how I am starting to look at the pause in this season of life.
I’m learning to do the same. To let go of old timelines, expectations, and the pressure to “figure it all out.”
Instead, I’m leaning into the quiet, trusting that what’s meant for me is still growing, even if I can’t see it yet.
5 Cozy Fall Rituals to Embrace the Pause
If you’re in your own season of pause, here are a few gentle ways to ground yourself and find a little peace in the waiting:

- Morning Light Moments
Skip the scroll. Step outside for five minutes of morning light with your coffee or tea and a quick gratitude check-in. I know it sounds way cozier to stay curled up on the couch but we’re talking five minutes. It’s like hitting “reset” for your nervous system. - Dream Home Visualization
Journal or create a Pinterest board of your dream space. Don’t do it from lack- do it from excitement. I’ve been dreaming about big windows, cozy corners, and warm wood tones. It’s not about forcing it to happen- it’s about feeling what you’re calling in. - Self-Care Sundays
Trade your to-do list for a little at-home spa time. Run a warm bath with a bath bomb, use your favourite scrub or face mask, and let yourself slow down. I’m loving so many great products from Juliette’s Spa Shop (you might even find a little gift from me in the Digital Tools section of her website). No multitasking, no guilt- just a quiet reset to remind your body you’re safe to rest. - The Let-Go List
Write down what’s been weighing on you- the worries, the what-ifs, the pressure to know- and burn or bury it. Let nature hold it for you. - Candlelit Evenings
Light your favourite scent (mine right now is Warm Apple Cider from Strawberry Sunshine), grab a soft blanket, and read something totally indulgent and mindless. I enjoyed Fall I Want by Lyra Parish- spicy, cozy and fall themed, and perfectly distracting. Or if you’re looking for a spicy Scottish escape, try Whisky Business by Elliott Fletcher.
Trust the Pause
Maybe this season isn’t about building or achieving. Maybe it’s about preparing- quietly aligning things behind the scenes so that when the next chapter begins, you’re ready.
So if you’re in the in-between too, don’t rush it. Hold the vision, release the outcome, and trust that everything is still working in your favour- even if you can’t see it yet.
Because just like the trees, what you let go of now is making room for what’s next.

If this season has you craving clarity or direction, my Vision Board Planner and Vision Phone Wallpaper (both inside the Ten Minute Transformational Toolkit) are the perfect way to reconnect with what you want – without the pressure of having it all figured out right now.
