Celebrate Mother’s Day Your Way: A Guide for Moms Who Want to Feel Truly Appreciated

Mother’s Day is the one day of the year designated to celebrate the women in our lives who mean everything to us – our mothers. But, let’s face it, a lot of the time, Mother’s Day doesn’t feel all that celebratory. Moms often end up cooking, cleaning, and dealing with the rest of the daily grind on this so-called special day. If you’re a mom who wants to feel truly appreciated this Mother’s Day, then this guide is for you.

Before you start down the list- ask yourself this- “What do I really need or want right now?” There’s no right or wrong answer. It’s easy to just go ahead with the typical- flowers, massage, meal etc. Ask yourself what would really fill your cup and make you feel appreciated. If you need help finding clarity– this post might help. Once you’ve done that- keep reading!

Here are some ideas for Mother’s Day activities that will help you celebrate in a way that really means something to you.

Spend Quality Time

One of the biggest things moms want is quality time with their families. So, for Mother’s Day this year, make it a point to spend some quality time with your loved ones. This can mean anything from going on a picnic to checking out a zoo or museum or going for a hike. Whatever you do, make it a point to focus on each other and be present in the moment. Remember- quality over quantity! It’s okay to take some time to connect with your family AND take quality time with yourself too.

Get Pampered

It’s not selfish to want to be pampered every once in a while, so on Mother’s Day, why not treat yourself to a little self-care? Book a spa day, get a massage, or even just a manicure and pedicure. If you have never tried visiting a Salt Room or chilling out with some Float Therapy (read the benefits)- I can’t recommend them enough! Taking care of yourself is important, and you’ve earned it!

Have Your Favourite Meal

If you’re the one who usually does the cooking, then why not switch things up this Mother’s Day and let someone else take over the kitchen? Choose your favorite meal or restaurant and enjoy being served for once. It’s a small gesture that can go a long way. If you have picky eaters like me, make them one of their easy favourites (mine can’t be the only ones who love buttered noodles lol) and then order in from somewhere you love and they usually complain about.

Connect with Other Moms

Sometimes all we need is someone to relate to. Consider spending Mother’s Day with other moms in your life, whether they’re your own mom, friends, or even online groups. Sharing your experiences with others can help you feel seen and heard, and it can also be a great way to make memories with others who truly understand you. I really love this idea especially for single moms or for those of us who have partners that work shifts and you’re a one woman show on the day.

Do Something You Enjoy

It’s easy to get caught up in the daily hustle and forget about the things we used to love doing. Take this Mother’s Day as an opportunity to do something that brings you joy, whether it’s reading a book, going for a run, or even just taking a long, uninterrupted nap. After all, this day is about celebrating you and all that you do.

“There is no way to be the perfect mother but a million ways to be a good one.”

Jill Churchill

Spend Time Solo

Yep- I said it! This is probably the number 1 thing that moms want but we all feel too guilty to say it. We bust our butts every day. Moms make sure the household is running, kids are fed, loved and entertained, we go to work, are supportive of our partners and friends. Moms do it all! Does having time to meditate, sit in a cute cafe, stroll through your fave store or just laze around your house all by yourself sound like a dream to you? Take the time!

Here’s the Key

Don’t leave it up to your partner or kids to “know” what you want. Communicate it clearly! Make up a schedule if you are planning a more active day . Chat with your partner if you are wanting some kid-free time. You are allowed to ask for you what you want. I bet your family will be happy to make mama’s day.

Conclusion

Mother’s Day can feel like a cliché holiday, but as a mom, you have the power to make it special and meaningful for you. You don’t have to settle for the same old flowers and chocolates. Instead, think about what would truly make you feel appreciated and happy. Perhaps you’d enjoy spending time with your loved ones, treating yourself to some self-care, savoring your favorite meal, connecting with other moms, or simply having some time to yourself. Whatever it is that you choose to do, make sure to take the time to indulge in activities that bring you joy and remind you that you’re valued every day, not just on Mother’s Day.
