What are The Five Love Languages?
This concept is from the book, The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it! This book totally changed mine and my hubby’s understanding of each others needs. Have you ever bought a really great gift for your partner but they aren’t as enthused as you were? Or your partner loves showering words of affection on you but you’re just frustrated that they didn’t think to do that repair you asked for help with?
You probably have different Love Languages. The five love languages are words of affirmation, quality time, receiving gifts, acts of service (devotion), and physical touch. These five languages provide a way for people to express their feelings in an intimate and meaningful way. Each language can be used in different ways depending on the relationship you have with the person in question.

Ideas for Kids
If you’re looking for ways to show your little ones some extra special love this Valentine’s Day, here are some ideas that incorporate the five love languages:
Words of Affirmation – Let them know how proud you are of them by writing down specific examples of what they did well that day on a piece of paper or card.
Quality Time – Set aside some dedicated time just for them by taking them out for a special treat or playing their favorite game together. Even better- make it a YES Day!
Receiving Gifts – For young children, even small trinkets can go a long way! Try giving them something that expresses their personality or interests such as stickers or books.
Acts of Service (Devotion) – Show your kids that you care by doing something special just for them. Whether it’s baking cookies together or making up funny stories about their favorite characters, make sure they know it was done just for them!
Physical Touch – Give your kids plenty of hugs and kisses throughout the day. This will help create strong emotional connections and lasting memories.
Ideas for Your Partner or Spouse
Valentine’s Day is also a great opportunity to let your partner know how much you appreciate them too! Here are some ideas using the five love languages that can help strengthen any relationship:
Words of Affirmation – Take the time to write down why you appreciate your partner on a piece of paper or card and give it to him/her as a token from the heart!
Quality Time – Show your partner that he/she is important to you by dedicating some quality time together without distractions such as phones and laptops; maybe even plan an outing if possible!
Receiving Gifts – Surprise your partner with something special that expresses his/her interests such as tickets to see their favorite band or sports team play live (which also connects with Quality Time). Or something they can enjoy right away like new workout clothes or a great skincare product. This is my hubby’s favourite eye cream.
Acts Of Service (Devotion) – Show your spouse how devoted you are by cooking dinner, taking their car through the car wash and filling it with gas or making them their morning coffee; it doesn’t need to be anything grandiose but just enough so they know they can count on you when needed!
Physical Touch – Make sure there is plenty of physical contact throughout the day; hold hands while taking walks around town, give an extra long hug or make it a sexy night in at home; whatever works best for both parties involved!
Ideas for Yourself
Don’t forget about yourself during this holiday season too—expressing self-love is equally important! Here are some ideas using the five love languages specifically tailored towards self-care this Valentine’s Day:
Words Of Affirmation – Write down positive affirmations about yourself every morning before starting off each day. These should reflect qualities about yourself that bring joy into your life such as “I am capable of achieving my goals no matter what challenges I face today”.
Quality Time – Spend some alone time without any distractions like phones, computers etc. Dedicate this time solely towards activities which bring peace into your life such as reading books, listening music etc.
Receiving Gifts – Treat yourself with something nice like getting tickets to go see a movie or buying yourself clothes that make you feel good about yourself. Remember there is no shame in rewarding oneself every once in awhile!
Acts Of Service (Devotion) – Show devotion towards yourself by engaging in daily habits which add value into one’s life. Think things like exercising regularly or journaling each night before going bed! If you need more ideas read this post with self love and simple habits tip!
Physical Touch – Give yourself hugs when feeling overwhelmed or rub some lotion on your hands or feet. For a bigger splurge- treat yourself to a new adult toy for some self lovin’! Research has shown that physical contact with one’s own body helps reduce stress levels significantly!
Conclusion
This Valentine’s Day why not use the five love languages as an alternative method for expressing love? Incorporating these elements into our everyday lives can help build stronger relationships between family members, partners/spouses, friends and even ourselves . So let us take advantage this February 14th and make it one filled with lots of heartfelt connection! Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!!
