The 6 Best Books to Grow Your Mindset
Mindset is EVERYTHING in life! When it comes to relationships, motivation, your health, reaching goals, feeling confident, how you perform at your job or in your business- having a positive mindset and a willingness to grow and be better than you were yesterday is the key to seeing growth in all areas of your life. There are many ways to nurture a growth mindset but reading is one of the most easily accessible, least expensive and simplest to schedule.
As a lifelong learner, I have always enjoyed discovering new mentors, looking to books and YouTube for answers. Okay- maybe I haven’t always enjoyed those things. They can be downright uncomfortable. However, leaning in to personal growth has always been the key to unlock the door in times that I have felt stuck, stagnant or down.
Why does personal growth matter?
Tony Robbins says that we have 6 human needs- certainty, variety, significance, love and connection, growth and contribution. By simply creating the habit of reading a personal development book for 10 minutes every day, you are feeding your need for growth. Not only that, the skills and tools you will learn and put into action are going to spill over and benefit the other areas of needs.
Any great leader is a reader! As a mom, you are the leader in your family. Your kids will always be watching and listening. They will do what you do. How you choose to spend your time, communicate with others and show up is something that your kids are constantly taking in. This is not a perfection game. This is a growth game. You take little baby steps everyday and you will be able to reach down and help lift others up.
Best Books to Level Up Your Mindset
Book 1: The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz
This book was one of the first books I read that totally changed my world. If you are looking for a personal mission statement or way of living your life everyday- this book is so practical and beautifully written. The Four Agreements is based on ancient Toltec wisdom that promotes freedom from self limiting beliefs. If you have never considered your own limiting beliefs, feel like you are suffering or aren’t reaching a level of satisfaction and enjoyment in your self and relationships, you will learn 4 powerful principles to live by that will change your life.
Book 2: The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins
I was lucky enough to attend a conference where Mel Robbins was our Guest Speaker. Her story of struggle- from financial stress to drinking too much- and lacking motivation to get moving in the direction of her dreams really resonated with me. She knew she needed to change some things in her life to get different results and came up with this idea that if she could just launch herself out of bed in the morning like a rocket ship, she could achieve the results. It turns out this is actually a crazy brain hack and it WORKS! If you know the action steps you need to take but aren’t taking them- The 5 Second Rule could be the key to unlocking your best self.
Book 3: You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero
This book was such a fun read- I read it on a flight to Vegas. I personally love Jen’s writing style- she’s funny, blunt but also packs a ton of value into an easy read. I am a sucker for storytellers and she’s a good one. This book will help you identify self-sabotaging beliefs, put your fears aside and figure out how you can make some money, love yourself and live the life you really want. There’s also easy exercises peppered throughout the book so you have actual action steps to take.
Book 4: Ordinary to Extraordinary by Tabatha DeBruyn
Another great storyteller that gives a clear action plan- do you see a theme here?! Read the books- take the action steps! Tabatha was a high school teacher who loved her family and life but knew there was more out there for her. She completely changed her life using the methods she shares in the book and is now a transformational coach, hypnotherapist, philanthropist and a leader in a social marketing health and wellness business. She shares a 10 step action plan for you to reprogram your brain for joy and success, build confidence, feel inspired, love yourself deeply and realize your potential so you can go out and create your own incredible story.
Book 5: Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself by Dr. Joe Dispenza
If all of this self help stuff intrigues you but you are more of a left-brained type that wants science, proof and facts- this is the book for you. Dr. Joe talks about brain-heart coherence, neuroscience, quantum physics and brain chemistry to give you the understanding and knowledge to truly change yourself in any area of your life. He breaks it all down into a step by step action plan so you can apply it to your life and see measurable changes. I love all things personal development and spirituality. his book knocked any cracks in my belief about whether all this “mindset stuff” really worked right out of the park. This is a book I will re-read to deepen my understanding and share about almost daily.
Book 6: The Magic by Rhonda Byrne
You may recognize this author as she wrote the book The Secret. This book builds on those philosophies but can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone. Gratitude is the key to joy. I believe when you practice gratitude you are given more to be grateful for. In this book, you are given a daily task to do. It is clearly laid out and simple to accomplish and the results are incredible. If you have been in a bit of a funk or feeling low- this is a brilliant book to pick up and commit to for 30 days.
When I read this last time, I couldn’t believe what was unfolding in my life and I felt so good! I was in a great mood, little gifts were showing up unexpectedly, my business grew, my kids actually commented that I seemed different. There were so many wins! Actually, I think it’s time for me to start it again.
