Morning Routine
My morning routine is as soon as I get up I do a workout in my home gym with my dog Brodie who usually stops me at least 5 times for kisses and snuggles, but I don’t mind as it gives me a break from the actual workout. I then go into mom mode of making kid lunches, drinking my coffee and getting people out the door. Once I drop the kids off at school Brodie and I do a quick run while I listen to one of my favourite podcasts. I get home and usually start my work for the day. I feel like there are parts of a routine sprinkled throughout the morning.
Best Productivity Hack
My biggest productivity hack for moms or entrepreneurs is using the concept of the big three. Each morning or if you are super keen the night before I write the three things that are most important to get done for the day. It helps me focus, it takes away over whelmed and really helps me prioritize plus it only takes ten minutes. I am also a multitasking maniac. I’ll listen to a podcast while making lunches. I will have a mental health dance party while making dinner, and I am doing this interview while driving my vehicle to a private lesson.
What’s Something You Want for Your Kids (That You Didn’t Always Experience)?
When I was a child, I played a lot of sports and did a lot of school activities. My mom worked and commuted long hours. My dad didn’t live with me so there were many times for events they could not attend and support me. I knew I wanted to be the kind of Mom who was there for ALL of the events for my kids. I wanted them to know I believe in them whatever they do and I am in their corner. You will see me at ALL of the school activities and I pretty much live at the arena. I scream (I mean cheer) them on, while wearing their jersey and ringing a very loud cow bell.
What Has Been Your Biggest Failure (Turned Lesson)?
I don’t know if I really believe I have ever had a failure, as I think everything is a lesson learned, but I have been guilty in the past of hopping into situations and projects that aren’t the right fit for me . There have been times I stick around with something way longer than I should have because I had made a commitment. I will say one of the biggest lessons I have been working on lately is really thinking about opportunities and getting better at saying, “No thank you”. If something comes along that interests me I have to ask the question does this align with the life I want and the goals I want to achieve and my family.
What’s Something You Do That Other People Might Think Is Weird?
Something I do that others may think is a little weird is I talk to myself a lot . That was actually when I knew I needed to start a podcast as I would stop a podcast I was listening to and give my opinion on a subject. I have also been known to create my own monologues and songs while driving in the car by myself.
What’s One Thing You Would Never Change About Yourself?
One thing I would never change about myself is my creativity. Sometimes I forget that not everybody’s mind works the same way that mine does. I feel like my creativity has helped me in business and in life with problem-solving and day to day issues. I am a master at last minute birthday parties, Halloween costumes and taking what I have right in front of me and making something magical happen.
What’s One Thing That Has Felt Like a Win as a Mom?
I always feel like I’m successful at being a mom when people compliment me on how good my kids are. Also when I notice them doing something that I didn’t ask them to do I feel like I must be doing something right. All three of my boys are the kind of kid when a new child starts at school, they take them in, show them around and make them feel welcomed and comfortable.
Ten Minute Tip
Find what lights you up and do that when you need to reset. I have recently been missing dancing in my life. Since I couldn’t find the time (right now) to fit a class in my schedule I have been having some epic dance parties while I cook dinner. I sing and perform regularly for my dog in my kitchen (yesterday it was a song from Hamilton). I always thought I would be on Broadway by the time I hit 40 but it doesn’t fit with the lifestyle I have chosen and the life I love so I find ways to fit it on my terms. If there is something you love to do find ways to put it into your life NOW even if it is for just ten minutes of the day.
